Another Tommasini Super Prestige-SOLD

Well, this build didn't stay put too long. I've swapped most of the parts over to the Gios, but had just enough left over to tempt me into building it again, but alas I decided to sell the frame. Oddly enough, the guy who bought it has a Tommasini Air fork for the same size frame. Lucky him.  I've now got enough parts for another build,  found at our local Recyclery.  A great place for used bikes and parts where the money goes to a good cause too. Bikes (and lessons) for kids who can't afford them. M aybe it'll be a Basso Loto or Ascot, if I can find one reasonably priced.   The last build started but was cut short on a whim.  I was able to find a low stack 3T Zepp stem, which allowed me to use the carbon fork again, a nice seatpost and a Campagnolo Record carbon crankset (missing the chainring bolts at the moment) for only $25 total. Pretty damn reasonable. Still have the Scirocco wheelset and the Chorus front and rear derailleurs (with replacement jockey wheel

1984 Tommasini Super Prestige 'Los Angeles Olympic'

Yet Another Update: So I finally emailed the current importer to see if they could tell me anything about the frame. They kindly referred me to Tommasini in Italy who I emailed. After a surprisingly fast response from Barbara, she informed me that the frame was made between 1983-1986 exclusively for the US market and distributed by Lewis William Imports in Texas. If I were to draw a more likely conclusion to its exact provenance, is that it was crafted in 1984 for the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Probably a Team USA tribute of sorts and it resembles the same style as the team jersey. Either way good to know more about it. Its currently built with the 9 speed Campagnolo Chorus group and Campagnolo Proton wheelset. Its finally settled! Another Update : Picked up a Campy Chorus 9-speed groupset on another frame and it only seemed fitting that I rebuild the America once again with Independence Day approaching.  UPDATE: So, in honour of Independence Day 2019 it's only fitting that I

2008 Pegoretti Marcelo

UPDATE: I landed a Campagnolo Record 11 speed group from the same guy who sold me the Chorus groupset that's on the De Rosa. Took it out for a 30 miler to test it out. Great shifting! With the 12-29 cassette and a compact 50t front, the 11 speeds make shifting down to the small chainring rather unecessary except for the steepest of hills. The new style of hoods took some getting used to, but the resulting ride was comfortable.  I was able to land this 2008 Pegoretti Marcelo frame, with serial number 108, and a Reynolds carbon fork off ebay. Ok, pinch me, it's been a dream bike for me for a while and even more so since I saw him and his frames at NAHBS in CLT a few years back. It feels especially rewarding after the fake "Gios" incident. Wasn't sure I'd ever be able to afford one.  Its a 56cm Columbus Spirit TIG welded steel frame with the Baci paint scheme by Dario Pegoretti. I own some great frames from the masters like Ernesto Colnago, Fa

1986 Gios Professional...nope...replica...yes -RETURNED

Here's an update. The seller wouldn't accept a reasonable price so I've decided to part with it. He can have it back try to sell it as a replica or whatever. Thanks to ebay for its money-back guarantee on authenticity.  Actually got the refund and the bike frame is back in the hands of the guy who sold the fake and will remain unnamed in this blog. At least he was honest enough to refund it completely without a hassle.  Oh, well, I'll try again with something thats legit. Scored, what I thought, was a red 1986 Gios Professional frame and fork. Its in wonderful shape, made from Columbus SLX and is 56cm. When I finally unpacked it and examined the details there seemed to be a few details different than my research. While the seat stay ends look typically Gios, the bottom bracket doesn't match anything I've seen online and the lugs were different, the had a slight peak which wasnt evident in any other Gios pic. A quick email to Gios-Torino with some pics confirm
